After School Sports Offerings – NEW!

By Stacey · July 30, 2010 · Filed in Announcements, From the Principal's Office · No Comments »

I am excited to outline the upcoming year’s middle school sports and
after school activities for you.  As a GCA and GCA Homeschool family,
you are welcome to participate in the programs we are “growing” at
GCA.  Here is a list of what we offer children grades 2nd-8th:
Fall:
Middle School Boys Soccer (Tuesdays and Thursdays after school)  The
boys compete with area Christian schools.  We will have several home
and aways games.  There is a try out for this team as it is
competitive.  Prior experience is highly recommended.  Try outs will
be in August, so if you are interested, please email me asap!  JR
Leonard is the coach.
Coed Middle School Cross Country (Tuesday and Thursdays 3:15-4:30)  We
compete against area Christian schools.  Most meets will be away, but
the schedule is light.  Andy Braunecker is the coach. If you are
interested, please contact me asap!  There is no try out for this
sport.
After School Floor Hockey grades 2nd-5th (Coed) (Monday 3:15-4:00). 45
minutes of fun coached by volunteer parents.

Winter:
Middle School Basketball (boys and girls).(Tuesday and Thursday
3:15-4:15).  We divide the gym in half and have the girls on one side
and the boys on the other.
Elementary School Basketball (boys and girls grades 2nd-5th) (Monday
3:15-4:00).  We divide the gym into thirds and learn some skills and
scrimmage.
Spring:

Middle School Girls Soccer (Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15-4:30)  The
girls compete with area Christian schools.  We will have several home
and aways games.  There is a try out for this team as it is
competitive.  Prior experience is highly recommended.  Try outs will
be in March.
Running Club (Monday 3:15-4:00)  Students from 2nd-8th grade can
participate.  We begin in April and meet for 6 weeks.  We play games
and get some good running in!

Each of these activities happen with the help of volunteers.  This
year, GCA families are asked to volunteer hours to manage the growing
number of activities our student body loves.  We need help to continue
to provide these opportunities.  Being a part of the sports programs
can fulfill your requirement.  If this seems like a great match,
please contact me and I can fill you in on our expectations for
volunteers.  You don’t need to be an athlete to help!  You just need
to be a hands on parent!
Please consider giving your time to help our children grow in their
love of healthy activities!

I will be looking forward to speaking with many of you in the upcoming
weeks.  My goal is to have all of our volunteers in place before the
beginning of the school year.

Each participant is expected to pay a $30.00 fee for the year to cover
expenses, limit $75/family.  Soccer participants will also need to pay for
uniforms.  We will be conservative!  Additional information  will be
available on August 3.  I will be set up in the gym from 10-12 AM.

God Bless and have a healthy and safe summer,  Please use this email to contact me with any questions – do not use reply.  tleonard@gca-de.org

Teacher Testimony – Kim Jackson – new!

Kim Jackson - Kindergarten

Kim Jackson - Kindergarten

As a child I went to church and Sunday School every week with my family, attended Vacation Bible School every summer, prayed certain prayers before meals and at bedtime, sang in the church choir and when old enough helped teach all the wonderful Bible stories I knew by heart. In January of 1996 my husband, two daughters and I moved to Bear, Delaware.  We settled into our new home, enrolled my oldest daughter in school and started to search for a good, safe and loving Christian preschool for our youngest daughter. I started with a large church near our new home…maybe it had a school or at the very least could tell me where I could find one.  Glasgow Christian Academy Preschool was just what I was looking for and they were willing to take my daughter mid-year. It would be years later before I would come to the realization of whose plan it really was and see the path God had already laid out for me.

It has been fourteen years now since I came to Glasgow Church believing that I knew the Lord…I could never remember a time that I didn’t.  But I have since realized that it is not enough to just know Him, I need to have a daily relationship with Him. It was through the friendship and mentorship of a very godly woman at Glasgow Church that I learned as a young mother how to know, love and fear God. Spiritual strength and growth was not gained overnight but has been and is a constant and regular partaking of spiritual nourishment.  All things happen in His time and what a blessing He has given me in my teaching positions at GCA.  I pray that He will allow me many more years, for what an honor and privilege it is to teach young ones of God’s love for them.
